New England Movement Arts (NEMA) is a community-based, multi-activity facility offering world-class instruction in martial arts, dance, fencing, and fitness. NEMA was founded in early 2013 by Melinda and Cosmin Marculetiu, both retired professional ballet dancers turned master teachers and Michael Chang, a black belt martial artist. NEMA is conveniently located at 123 Muller Road, Burlington, MA, near the intersection of Route 128 and the Middlesex Turnpike.
The NEMA facility is housed in an 18,000 square foot warehouse adjacent to the Burlington Middlesex Commons and is within easy travel distance of Arlington, Bedford, Billerica, Burlington, Lexington, Winchester, and Woburn. The facility includes a martial arts dojo, two large dance studios, which also serve as a black box theater, and a gymnastics/fitness room.
NEMA is committed to fostering a strong sense of community among the diverse Middlesex County residents through the movement arts. Specifically, our mission is to provide the community with an arts center that allows both youth and adults to experience high-level instructions and develop their skills in a variety of art forms. Further, we aim to provide a center where students of all ages can perform in front of a live audience and display their progress and skills as performers. Within our studios, New England Movement Arts offers youth and adult classes that cater to all experience levels and to both recreational and pre-professional students. With each class, NEMA strives to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the movement arts.
Classes are taught by seasoned professionals who are skilled, energetic, welcoming, and enthusiastic. Our unique teaching staff consists of retired principal ballet dancers from Romania and international and national gold, silver and bronze medalists in ballet, fencing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi, rhythmic gymnastics, Karate and Kung Fu. These former champions have over 100 years of combined teaching experience, thus setting the stage for NEMA’s high teaching standards. In addition, NEMA often invites world-class guest instructors that lead seminars and workshops.
Further, each semester, NEMA seeks to introduce and offer exciting, new classes in dance, fitness, martial arts, and fencing that are both enjoyable and challenging. Please join us in our new studio and try a class today!
